The New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union (NHCLU) was founded in 1968, and is the state affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). We are a nonpartisan organization that defends civil liberties in the courtroom and in the legislature and seeks to expand awareness of individual rights in the classroom, in civic groups and in the media.
The NHCLU Foundation is our 501(c3) organization.
The Foundation provides:
- Representation for those whose rights have been violated and challenges laws that infringe on individual freedom.
- The Foundation also educates students and other citizens about civil liberties guaranteed by the Constitution.
The NHCLU and the NHCLU Foundation are governed by separate Boards of Directors made up of volunteers from across New Hampshire. A small professional staff maintains the office in Concord.
